URBAN ROADS DESIGN (4 roads, 4 T-intersections and 1 crossing intersection)

Process step 1:

Autodesk Civil 3D & iDAS (2 minutes)

  • Select function "Create corridors from polylines"

Autodesk Civil 3D only (28 minutes)

  • Create alignments

  • Calculate super elevation for each alignment (for drainage purposes)

  • Create profiles from surface

  • Create profile views

  • Create vertical alignments (profiles)

  • Create corridors

  • Split corridor regions where slope changes

  • Swap assemblies for each region to match the road cross fall for drainage

  • Create corridor road edge profiles (static profiles are created that must be redone with every change)

  • Set profile view band sets

  • Create corridor(s) top surface

  • Create corridor(s) datum surface

  • Create sample lines

Model Maker is extensively used in South Africa by surveyors to deliver survey information to engineers. The TOT file format contains all surveyed points as well as the triangulation done by the surveyor. The same process is available for a survey that was done in Civil Designer.

Process:

  • Select function "Create surface from TOT file"

  • Extract points data from TOT file manually

  • Import points

  • Draw triangulation manually between points

  • Create surface from CAD objects

Task 1 times has been excluded from the accumulated times to provide more realistic productivity calculations for international projects, since the surface creation was based on South African survey data formats.

  • Create combined surfaces

Process :

  • Create plan and profile sheets for all alignment automatically

  • Create plan production for cross sections

  • Adjust cross section datum and section view height for all cross sections​

  • Create cross section sheets

  • Calculate quantities

  • Export quantities in columnated format

Autodesk Civil 3D only (16 minutes)

  • Create plan and profile sheets manually for each alignment, and edit to fit in the viewport on each sheet

    • Create view frames​

    • Create sheets

    • Adjust profile view viewports

  • Create plan production for cross sections

  • Adjust cross section datum and section view height individually

  • Create cross section sheets

  • Calculate quantities

  • Export quantities in Autodesk Civil 3D format

  • Manipulate data in spreadsheet editor
