Subassemblies Development

The following Devotech Assemblies are available:

Contact us at support@devotechgroup.com for more information regarding the development of specialised assemblies you might need for your projects.

Road Kerbs

The following kerb assemblies are available:

  • Barrier kerb SABS (Fig 3)

  • Rectangular kerb SABS (Fig 5)

  • Semi-mountable kerb SABS (Fig 7)

  • Mountable kerb SABS (Fig 8B)

  • Mountable kerb SABS (Fig 8C)

  • Rectangular kerb SABS (Fig 10)

Stormwater Channel on low side

This subassembly creates a channel on the low side of the road. Attach this subassembly to both sides of the road and connect other subassemblies to them.

The following parameters can be set:

Advanced Lane

This subassembly is suitable for dual carriageway design and there are 5 major advantages which the standard Autodesk® Civil 3D® lane assembly doesn't support:

  • It has an inside and outside width

  • It has an inside and outside shift width (Practical if the lanes have a stepped offside on the inside and outside)

  • It supports box cut

  • Most of the codes can be set by the user

  • An outer sloped edge does not super elevate with the lane, but keeps the defined slope

SANRAL Cut and Fill

This sub assembly creates cut/fill as per the SANRAL specifications and it supports 3 conditions:

Low Fill

High Fill using a Type A concrete side drain

Shallow and Deep Cut

Berms can be defined under specific conditions:

An example of the berm being created in the cut condition only when the surface cross slope is towards the road.

If you use the option to create a berm only when the surface cross slope is towards the road, this condition can change every few meters, creating a lot of very short berms. To solve this issue, define a horizontal target (polyline, feature line, alignment or survey figure). If this target exists, the berm is always created in the cut condition. This target must be set in the Corridor Properties window under Set All Targets.

Below is an example of the short berm which was connected with the other berm by specifying a horizontal target:

Before specifying a horizontal target

After specifying a horizontal target

A similar problem can occur if the deep cut or high fill condition changes every few meters. You can define a horizontal target (polyline, feature line, alignment or survey figure); if this target exists, then deep cut or high fill is always created. This target must be set in the Corridor Properties window under Set All Targets.

The SANRAL specification does not define if a high fill drain should always be created or only if the road cross slope is towards the road edge.  This subassembly has the option to create a high-fill drain under the following conditions:

  • Always

  • Only when the cross slope is towards the road edge.

The image below shows high fill drain only on the low side of the road:

SANRAL Median Barrier with Retaining Wall

This subassembly creates a median with multiple conditions as per the SANRAL specification.  This subassembly can be applied from the start to the end of the road without specifying separate regions with different assemblies, and it will design the complete road through all the different conditions. The example below shows a few possible conditions.

The following parameters can be set:

The left and right inside road edges can be targeted to alignments and profiles.

SANRAL Median Barrier with Wall and U-Channel

This subassembly applies different types of barriers or retaining walls to the corridor, depending on the difference in elevation between the left inside lane and right inside lane profile.  These profiles can either be designed for each side of the road or they can be created from a corridor (Devotech iDAS tools can be used to link these profiles dynamically to the corridor). The following barrier types are used in the assembly:

  • Median Barrier Type MB (Max 125mm level difference)

  • Median Barrier Type MC (Max 500mm level difference)

  • Median Barrier Type MD (Max 650mm level difference)

  • Median Barrier Type ME (Max 950mm level difference)

  • Median Barrier Type MF (Max 1380mm level difference)

Conditional Road Edge Beam or Channel

This subassembly applies different conditions for low and high road edges.  It uses an edge beam for the high side and a concrete channel for the low side.
